INVENTION : the “anti-vanity” portrait (1861). The vain woman having had her portrait taken at every angle and having not yet found the right one, is invited to face away from the camera.

WORKS : none, the menace was sufficient. The Pictorialists at the end of the 19th century were the first to ϕ the backs of women's necks with a vengeance.
